Kids Don’t Fly:
A Safety Message
About Window Screens
Every year in Australia, children are seriously injured after falling from windows or balconies—often in their own homes. Westmead Children’s Hospital has highlighted this as a growing safety concern for families, reminding parents that prevention is key.
Why Flyscreens Aren’t Enough
Standard flyscreens are designed to keep insects out, not children safe. NSW Health warns:
“Children can fall out of a window which is open more than 12.5 cm, even if a flyscreen is fitted.”
A flyscreen can easily pop out, tear, or sag under pressure. If a child leans, climbs, or pushes against it, there’s nothing to stop them from falling.
A Safer Solution: Amplimesh® Safety Screens
At Bulleen Screens, we supply and install Amplimesh® security fall prevention screens that provide reliable fall prevention while still allowing fresh air to circulate.
Unlike standard flyscreens, Amplimesh® safety screens are:
- Stronger than flyscreens — made from high-quality aluminium or stainless steel mesh.
- Securely fixed — designed to resist outward pressure from children leaning or pushing.
- Custom-fitted — tailored to your windows for maximum safety and performance.
- Compliant — meet fall-prevention recommendations for child safety.
- Versatile — available for a range of window types, including awning, sliding, and double-hung windows.
These screens give families peace of mind without compromising on ventilation or style.
