Flyscreens for Every
Type of Window
Aluminium flyscreens are a simple, effective way to keep insects out while letting fresh air and natural light into your home. Designed to attach to either the inside or outside of your windows, they reduce gaps that insects can sneak through, giving you comfort and peace of mind.
Fitting a Flyscreen to Your Window
Every flyscreen is measured individually, even for windows that look identical. A difference of just a few millimetres can affect how well a screen fits, functions, or stays securely in place. Precision is key to making sure your flyscreen performs exactly as it should.
Sliding Windows
For sliding windows, screens are usually installed in a channel alongside the moving sash on the exterior of the building. This allows the window to open and close freely without needing to remove or adjust the screen, making everyday use seamless.
Awning Windows (Top-Hinged)
Awning windows open outward from the top, so flyscreens are fitted inside the frame. The screen needs to form a complete seal around the opening, which may require careful planning around internal features like blinds.
Most modern awning windows include a central winder mechanism on the inside sill. Bulleen Screens’ flyscreens are designed to sit neatly over the winder. When necessary, a custom “Tail Piece” is added and trimmed for a perfect fit.
Double-Hung Windows
Double-hung windows usually have screens installed on the outside, so both sashes can operate without removing the screen. Upper-level installations may require a ladder or scaffold, though some can be installed from inside.
Older timber windows may have sashes sealed with layers of paint. In these cases, a half-height screen with side channels can provide a clean seal and cover gaps caused by uneven frames. Full-height screens can be installed as either a face fit, sealing against the outer frame, or a recess fit, sitting inside the window reveal.
Casement Windows (Hinged on One Side)
Casement windows open outward, so screens are generally installed on the inside. Some older styles with protruding handles may require handle removal to fit the screen correctly, while modern designs often allow normal operation.
When movement is needed, hinged screens or soft-framed magnetic screens provide a flexible solution without compromising usability.
Louvre Windows
Louvre window screens are typically installed on the outside, allowing the blades to operate from inside. The main consideration is whether fully opened blades extend beyond the mounting surface. If they do, a custom mounting solution may be required, or the opening range may be slightly limited.
Sashless Windows
Sashless windows slide vertically or horizontally and have no frame around the glass. Screens are usually fitted externally, with care taken to avoid interfering with counterweight mechanisms, especially in vertical sliding styles.
